Carlos Montemayor

Professor of Philosophy at San Francisco State University

My PhD in Philosophy, with a Certificate in Cognitive Science, is from Rutgers University. I joined the faculty at San Francisco State University in the summer of 2009, and I am currently Professor of Philosophy. My research focuses on the intersection between philosophy of mind, epistemology, and cognitive science. For an overview of my research, here is my interview with Richard Marshall at 3:16.

My book Minding Time: A Philosophical and Theoretical Approach to the Psychology of Time offers an account of time perception that takes into consideration scientific findings on psychological time-keeping mechanisms and simultaneity windows. It also argues that time perception is analog. NDPR Review. Brill Site.

I co-wrote a book with H. H. Haladjian on consciousness and attention, published by MIT Press: Consciousness, Attention, and Conscious Attention. This is a review of the book in NDPR.

I co-authored a book with Abrol Fairweather on the nature of epistemic agency, epistemic abilities, and attention, published by Cambridge University Press. Here is a review of Knowledge, Dexterity, and Attention.

A recently co-edited volume on issues in quantum mechanics and philosophy of mind, with Acacio de Barros, has been published by Synthese. It includes a foreword by Roger Penrose: Quanta and Mind.

Once upon a time, I obtained a JD (Law Degree) from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. My thesis, on human rights, was published by Porrúa and was reviewed here (in Spanish).
