NOT Just Another Summit. I had the rare privilege of showing up as both a Panelist / Speaker and a Student at the Unicorn Summit — sharing insights from the global venture space, while absorbing the brilliance of minds pushing the boundaries of advanced science and frontier innovation. There’s something humbling about speaking on stage to teach, only to walk off and be deeply taught. An impressive lineup of scientists, doctors, thought leaders, investors, engineers, and experts whose creative geniuses are changing the world. At the Unicorn Summit, it became clear: the future isn’t arriving—it’s being engineered by a radically different breed of founders, thinkers, and capital allocators. These are not just regular entrepreneurs. They are evolving into transformative architects — Multi-disciplinary. Mission-driven. Systemic thinkers. Yesterday, I had the joy of watching Ray Kurzweil deliver a phenomenal virtual keynote at the Unicorn Summit in Estoril, Portugal. His insights into the exponential progress of Al were as sharp and compelling as ever. Truly a highlight of the conference. Charlie Kam opened the session with a warm introduction of Ray and shared a few remarks about Ashish Tripathi's Tzar Labs and their groundbreaking early-stage cancer detection blood test—a powerful example of how exponential technologies are already transforming lives. A standout moment was the session on Women in Future Tech, featuring truly inspiring and deeply moving remarks from Natasha Vita-More, PhD, Chair of Humanity+ and a pioneering voice in transhumanist thought, and Martine Rothblatt, visionary entrepreneur, futurist, and founder of SiriusXM and United Therapeutics. Their brilliance, courage, and clarity of purpose were powerful-and their heartfelt encouragement for more women to lead, shape, and innovate in this space left a lasting impression.
It was great to speak at the first Unicorn Summit. The energy was amazing as were the connections made and the ideas exchanged among fellow speakers and audience members/investors, inventors and entrepreneurs, making it a conference to remember for a long time. Thank you to Mirela Sula, founder extraordinaire of Global Woman Club for making the initial connection and arranging for a number of us to fly straight from the Global Woman Summit in London to Lisbon. As a clinical and organizational psychologist, I am honored to have been invited as a keynote speaker for UNICORN SUMMIT 2025, on the Alfa stage of the Estoril Congress Center in Portugal, at the opening on June 30, at this event that ended on Wednesday, July 2.
I spoke about “The Psychology of Connection: Healing Minds and Empowering Organizations” to a room with 600 seats in person and over 1,000 participants online, sharing ideas on how to strengthen minds and organizations for a future of abundance.

We just returned from the Unicorn Summit in Portugal, a truly superb event that brought together thoughtful and visionary minds in the fields of AI, health, longevity, and life's mission. It was also a key meeting for investors in new startups dedicated to improving people's lives.
The experience was deeply enriching, allowing us to share space and knowledge with some of the brightest minds of our generation. What a great experience it's been so far, the first 2 days of the Unicorn Summit in Portugal, connecting to great entrepreneurs, founders and investors here to change the paradigm of the world we live in, by creating and investing in Tech for the Good. The kind of AI & Tech that is here to solve the great problems humanity is tackling right now: from longevity to nutrition to wellbeing, climate change (William Carbone, MS, MBA & Sevan Gerard are on a mission to sustainably tackle all wild fires around the world ), aviation industry clean fuels and so on.
Having a wellness company myself, tackling burnout for texh executives as well as mental & emotional wellbeing, I was interested in the fast changing landscape and I will tell you this, after listening to the first 2 days: we are super close to having to choose how long we really want to live. What happens when a room full of entrepreneurs stops optimizing for themselves and starts optimizing for something bigger? That question followed me through Unicorn Summit. The thread running through the sessions I caught: the most interesting thinking treated humans, companies, and ecosystems as complex systems - and worked with that complexity rather than flattening it. Something I didn't expect to see at a tech conference: a panel on entrepreneurship and impact ended with a spontaneous group hug. In a formal conference setting, that sounds weird. But it said something no slide could - that when people are genuinely oriented toward something larger than their own success, the energy in the room shifts. I also crossed paths with Mabel Orbea - someone I first met at the Inner Development Forum by Vera Shatska. The kind of people who think about self-development not just as a personal project, but as something that ripples outward. Into the teams they work with, the ecosystems they shape, the world they want to see. A good reminder that the most meaningful connections often happen outside the scheduled program. That's the thread I keep following. In community strategy, in startup ecosystems, and apparently at conferences too. Just back from speaking at the Unicorn Summit Europe 2026 in hashtag#Lisbon and my brain is pleasantly overstimulated. A packed weekend of conversations about AI, longevity, the future of humanity and several topics that made me nod thoughtfully whilst secretly wondering if I’d accidentally wandered into a sci-fi film. A few highlights… Successfully navigating the entire event without pretending I fully understand quantum computing. A personal achievement. Joining a panel with the brilliant Mirela Sula and Katrina Victoria Gumaya , expertly moderated by the summit founder Nuno Martins, PhD , whose superpower appears to be asking questions that quietly dismantle your assumptions. Unexpectedly finding myself in a talk about dating. Not generally what springs to mind when you attend a conference on the future of humanity, but Fernando Aires delivered a fascinating perspective on masculine and feminine dynamics. Refreshingly nuanced, thought-provoking and a timely reminder that human relationships may be every bit as important as technological progress. Listening to Jack J. McCauley , one of the pioneers behind Oculus VR , talk about innovation. It’s easy to forget that every technology that changes the world started as an idea that sounded slightly ridiculous. Watching Aubrey de Grey challenge one of humanity’s biggest assumptions: that ageing is inevitable. Whether he’s right or wrong, I left thinking about what’s possible rather than what’s probable. But here’s what struck me…. For all the talk of artificial intelligence, human enhancement and technological breakthroughs, the qualities that seemed most valuable in the room were remarkably old-fashioned.

One idea that stayed with me came from the discussions around AI and human potential: 📝 Is the goal of AI simply to give us answers, or does the real value still lie in the human thinking process behind them? As I reflect on this from my new role at the Eesti Disainikeskus / Estonian Design Centre, it feels particularly relevant. In design, understanding the problem is often more valuable than rushing toward a solution. The quality of the outcome is frequently determined by the quality of the questions we ask, the assumptions we challenge, and the perspectives we bring together. A particularly inspiring perspective at the event came from my dear friend Diana Saarva, who spoke about a future where AI is not about replacing humans, but about expanding human potential through trusted intelligent ecosystems. Attending a Unicorn Summit is definitely not for those who are comfortable with “business as usual.” I am still reflecting on a series of thought-provoking discussions last week in Lisbon, covering the latest developments in science, medicine, and technology, as well as the challenges of scaling while maintaining sustainability. The conversations also explored the immense potential of AI, alongside its possible implications for how we think and operate. From John Lee’s dynamic insights on scaling businesses to Sohrab Dalal’s striking question, “Where were you when World War III started?”, the conference offered an intense and wide-ranging journey across critical topics shaping our future. I also had the privilege of joining the panel on Entrepreneurship and Investment for a Better World alongside Paola Telfer, Ricardo Gil-da-Costa, Ivandro Monteiro, PhD , and others. Three key takeaways stood out: - Ethics and responsibility matter. The development and application of innovation cannot be left solely to governments, regulators, or legal frameworks. Entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders must take ownership of the broader impact of their decisions. - Today’s challenges demand collaboration. The complexity of global issues requires strong partnerships—across companies, and between the private sector, governments, and NGOs. Collaboration is no longer optional; it is essential. - Communication is a critical challenge. Explaining complex issues without oversimplifying or resorting to overhyped narratives remains difficult. Solutions such as electrification or plant-based diets can help address climate change, but they also carry trade-offs. Because we operate within deeply interconnected systems, addressing long-term sustainability requires a more holistic and nuanced approach. Just back from the Unicorn Summit in Lisbon, and what stayed with me wasn't the technology. It was the philosophy and ethics underneath it. A room full of founders, researchers, clinics and investors building for serious scale, all circling the same question: what are we actually optimizing for, and who gets to decide? For me it comes down to cognitive sovereignty. Keeping your own capacity to think clearly and make up your own mind, whatever tools you use. And I mean something specific. Not training one brainwave or chasing one state, but building the brain's flexibility across the full spectrum, alpha through gamma, and the combinations between them, so it can move into whatever a moment asks of it. That flexibility in range is the work, and it's built methodically, in steps. Why it matters: a younger generation more distracted than ever, an older one afraid of losing their mind, and AI quietly doing more of our thinking for us. One problem, not three. We don't really understand the brain, we don't measure it, and we barely invest in keeping it healthy. The hopeful part is that the brain is trainable. Those MIT findings last year showed the networks that fade with passive AI use aren't gone, just underused. They come back with deliberate training. It's effort, but it works. Thank you, Unicorn Summit, for gathering people willing to sit with the harder questions.
A fantastic day at the European Unicorn Summit in Lisbon. Here we connected with the parallel universe of high level tech innovators, investors and old industry hands to share and collaborate on Disaster Health and the problems of health care in crisis situations. Exposing the immense problem set we outlined a strategic framework and some practical insights into bringing tech to this space. Disaster Health Institute represented by myself and Sevan Gerard in Lisbon and Dr John Quinn on line we explained the practical and academic approach of DHI to bring practical solutions such as the Silver Triduum to Prolonged Casualty Care and bringing together high tech companies including Ricardo Gil da Costa CEO and Caroline Cauduro AI lead (on stage) from Neuroverse, Niki Santo. (on line) CEO of Swaza as well as other companies such as Qudni Lab together into a conceptual ‘Silver Backpack’ module to support disaster medical response for trauma. A high level opportunity to share the Disaster ‘universe’ with the diverse participants at the Unicorn summit to stimulate thinking debate and action.

After years of studying them and breaking bread with enough founders who have built them, I realize that they share an underlying DNA that makes them rare, but definitely NOT random. High Intensity Pain Points - they solve problems painful enough to drive behavior change, SPENDING, and urgency. Massive Addressbale Markets - they enter markets large enough to matter, inefficient enough to reinvent, and expansive enough to create a meaningful white space for disruption and market expansion. Founder Intensity - it’s hard to find founders who are mission obsessed, with relentless execution and high agency. Add integrity into the mix, and you get an even smaller number. Talent density - They build environments where unusually capable individuals raise the standards, compress execution timelines, and compound organizational intelligence. As an investor, I always like to ask, “Can this founding team recruit people better than themselves?” because the most successful companies are not only talent-rich, but are also TALENT-DENSE. The longer I spend in venture, the less I believe in luck alone. Extraordinary companies may look different on the surface, but many are built on familiar foundations.

It’s been a while since I joined a congress, so when I had the opportunity to join the Unicorn Summit in Lisbon, I quickly said yes! The purpose of the summit is for “founders, investors, and tech innovators to unite and ignite the next generation of unicorns.” Might be a stretch of what I normally do but turns out that two themes kept coming back to me: longevity in health and education. At Acumen Public Affairs, a big part of what I do is helping leading health companies communicate complex topics in ways that actually land to various stakeholders. Right now, AI in health, longevity and biotech is where so much of that work lives. Because the conversation has shifted. We're not just talking about treating illness anymore. We're asking what it means to age well, to live longer and better. On the opposite spectrum, I had my kids on my mind. Especially because a lot of the topics resolved around education and how the new generation will co-exist next to AI. In a lot of ways, how we teach children hasn't fundamentally changed in 200 years. And yet we're cutting art, music, handcrafts. The messy, creative, hard-to-measure stuff. The exact stuff AI can't do. During his talk, Steven Garan, Director of Bioinformatics at CREA, said: "All children are creative — but we take it from them." As a mom, that one landed differently. I don't want Matteo and Alma prepared for a world that doesn't exist anymore. I want them growing up knowing that their curiosity, their creativity, their emotional intelligence is worth more than AI.

Ray Kurzweil just featured on the Tony Robbins podcast. We were privileged to listen to Ray's visions at Unicorn Summit Lisbon July 2025. He has been working in AI since over 60 years. Many of his 1999 predictions on AI have turned put to be accurate. Our brains only know linear growth. We need to adapt to look into exponential growth. We all need the courage to use all these new tools! And skillset to be focused on creativiy, love, compassion, adaptability and a passion to tap into new things. A small recap of the Unicorn Summit 2026, we had the privilege to attend A lot of valuable knowledge was shared over these incredible days, but here are some of the insights that resonated most with me: The purpose of innovation is not just to create wealth, but to create impact. True success is measured by the number of lives we positively influence. The power of networking is not in collecting contacts, but in building genuine relationships. Real opportunities come from real connections. Resilience is a non-negotiable skill. Every successful entrepreneur faces setbacks, criticism, failures, and challenges. The key is to keep moving forward, learn from every experience, and develop thick skin along the journey. Technology is neither good nor bad by itself. Every major innovation comes with opportunities and risks. Our responsibility is to minimise the dangers while maximising the benefits it can bring to humanity. Longevity is not about how long we live; it’s about how well we live. Health, purpose, energy, and quality of life matter just as much as the number of years we have. Wealth and impact should go hand in hand. We need to build businesses that not only generate profit but also contribute positively to society and the world around us. In a rapidly changing world, collaboration, tolerance, and respect for different perspectives are more important than ever. The future belongs to those who can create unity while embracing diversity. One of the biggest reminders from this event was simple: We don’t just need better technology. We need better humans. I've sat in rooms with brilliant minds before, but Unicorn Summit is the only place I've watched my own instincts as a mother and my instincts as a twelve-year veteran of global commodity trading and mining point in exactly the same direction: the future belongs to those who can hold ambition and humanity together. I brought my German business club and international women's network into this room because I believed in it before I could fully explain why. A year later, I understand: it's not just about the next unicorn company. It's about the next generation. At the John Lee Mastermind, I heard him say he can already see Unicorn Summit filling Madison Square Garden one day. Having sat in that room in Estoril and Lisbon, watching the calibre of people, ideas, and energy — I believe it too. My four-year-old already wants her own unicorn — the actual kind, not the billion-dollar kind. When we spoke at the John Lee Mastermind about one day bringing children into this ecosystem, letting them build and imagine alongside us, something clicked. That's the world I want her to inherit. Twelve years in commodity trading taught me to move at extraordinary speed. AI is now accelerating that pace further, for all of us. But for the sake of our children, I believe we also need to slow down — to protect their childhoods, to free up real time for the people and communities we love. Unicorn Summit is one of the few rooms I've been in where high-velocity ambition and that slower, more human instinct don't contradict each other. They build toward the same thing you always speak about, Nuno — a world of abundance for everyone. That's the future I want children of this world to grow up in.
The most interesting thing about Unicorn Summit Europe — which I had the privilege of attending and speaking at this year in Lisbon — was meeting exceptional individuals who could articulate developments I'd only sensed intuitively but couldn't quite name. Unicorn Summits offer the opportunity to become part of a community of people who challenge convention and think outside the box, people who are not looking to fix the problems of the past but rather who are imagining and are actively contributing to shape a better tomorrow.
