Dr. Tiago Outeiro graduated in Biochemistry from the University of Porto and was an Erasmus student at the University of Leeds in the UK. He completed his PhD at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at MIT and later worked as a Research Scientist and Consultant at FoldRx Pharmaceuticals.
During his time in the United States, Dr. Outeiro served as Vice-President, President, and Chairman of PAPS.
He then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where he focused on the study of neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Outeiro is currently a Full Professor and Director of the Department of Experimental Neurodegeneration at the University Medical Center Göttingen in Germany. Since November 2017, he has also been Professor of Neurodegeneration at Newcastle University in the UK.
