Alex Wissner-Gross

Scientist, Inventor and Entrepreneur

Dr. Alexander D. Wissner-Gross is an award-winning computer scientist, entrepreneur, investor, and advisor. He is Founder and Managing Partner of Reified and has taught at Harvard University and MIT.

He has received numerous distinctions, authored multiple publications, holds over two dozen patents (issued, pending, and provisional), and has founded, advised, and invested in more than 33 technology companies. He won the USA Computer Olympiad (1998) and the Intel Science Talent Search (1999).

He earned three bachelor’s degrees from MIT in Physics, Electrical Science and Engineering, and Mathematics, graduating first in his class from the MIT School of Engineering. He later completed a PhD in Physics at Harvard University, where his research in neuromorphic computing, machine learning, and programmable matter received the Hertz Foundation’s Doctoral Thesis Prize.

He is a thought leader in artificial intelligence and cyber-physical systems, and a contributing author to This Idea Must Die and What to Think About Machines That Think. His TED talks have surpassed 2 million views and have been translated into 27 languages. His work has been featured in over 200 media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, CNN, USA Today, and Wired.
